Shirley Masiée of Severna Park passed on Monday evening at the age of 87. Mrs. Masiée was born on July 29, 1923 in Topeka Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Mavis Ferguson. As a child, she lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Brussels, Belgium until World War II started. She graduated from Principia College in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She worked for Senator Douglas of Illinois after graduation for a short period. After the war, she successfully applied to the U. S. Foreign Service and was posted to the American Consulate in Algiers for two years and then to the American Consulate in Yokohama, Japan for two years. Her next posting was to the political section at the American Embassy in Paris. It was while working there that she met Philippe Masiée. The couple was married in Paris on March 29, 1952. She resigned from the Foreign Service and returned with her husband to the United States. After living in Brooklyn, Chicago, and Milwaukee, the family lived in the Detroit area where Shirley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Wayne State University. Shortly afterwards, the family settled in Severna Park and Shirley worked as a computer programmer, working on the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) project and weather satellites for NOAA. She was involved in church activities and volunteered at the Christian Science Reading Room weekly until very recently.

Mrs. Masiée loved sailing and was very active in politics. She and her husband traveled to Europe to travel and visit family every year.
