Shirley A. Lombardo (nee Carter), 77, a resident of Chester, Maryland for six years, died of complications from pneumonia on April 7 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Mrs Lombardo was born June 2, 1930 in Washington, DC, where she was raised.

She graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC in 1948. She married James Joseph Lombardo in 1952. The couple lived in Wilmington, DE. Following her husband's discharge from the Air Force, Mrs Lombardo lived in St Louis, MO while her husband attended college. The couple settled in Anne Arundel County, MD, where Mrs Lombardo lived until 2001. Since then, she lived in Chester, MD.

Mrs Lombardo was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Glen Burnie, St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park and St Christopher's Church in Chester. She served as extraordinary minister of Holy Communion at Mass and to the sick while at St John's and St Christopher's.

During her life, she was a homemaker, worked at the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the National Security Administration and the Naval Academy, and most recently at Holy Trinity.

Mrs Lombardo was active in the Berrywood Community Association in Severna Park. In Kent Island, she was a member of the Red Hats Society and volunteered for Hospice of Queen Anne's County.

She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, gardening, tennis and traveling, especially cruises.

She was predeceased by her brother Phillip Carter and sisters Kathleen Amidon, Marjorie Bunyea, Eleanor Sohr, Ruth Carter and Mary Jane Carter.

Survivors include her husband James of Chester, Maryland; two daughters, Carmela Powell of Denton, Maryland and Eileen Gawitt of Severna Park, Maryland; three sons, Kevin Lombardo of Federal Hill, Maryland, Mark Lombardo of Tianjin, China and Steve Lombardo of Severna Park, Maryland; one sister, Virginia Logan of Hay Market, Virginia; and eleven grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, April 10 from 6-9pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Queen Anne's County, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, Maryland 21617.
