IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley M.
Irvine
March 22, 1930 – June 24, 2022
Shirley Irvine passed away at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a valiant six month fight against Covid-19 complications. Shirley was born in Roland Park, Baltimore on March 22, 1930 to William and Lillian Nicholson. As one of twelve children, Shirley fondly remembered childhood adventures with her beloved siblings, and frequently spoke of them. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, grandson, Jeff, and ten brothers and sisters.
Shirley met her dear husband, Bill, after hitting him on the head with a tennis ball as he played in an adjacent court. The two had a fairytale romance and married in December 1947. The couple had two children, Charles and Joy, and raised them in the house that they lived in for the rest of their lives. Shirley was a constant support to Bill as he founded and grew one of the largest flooring contractors in the entire country. Shirley was a woman of great Christian faith, whose greatest joy was loving and nurturing her beloved family. Every morning she would start her day with prayer, thanking God for her life and for her family.
Ever one to stay busy, Shirley was always shopping for something, either for her collection of pillows and placemats, handbags, or for an ingredient for one of her delectable home cooked meals. Shirley loved sitting outside with her dog, Butter, and marveling at the beauty of the God's creation and listening to the birds chirp. Shirley's legacy is vast, both through her family and through her silent generosity, as she was always desiring to help those in need.
Shirley leaves behind a daughter, Joy De Leon (Jose) of Severna Park; a son, Charles Irvine (Colleen) of Lexington, Virginia; her sister, Marjorie of Arizona; her five grandchildren, James De Leon, Blake De Leon and Nicole De Leon of Severna Park, MD, and Jamie Grue and Katie Irvine of Lexington, VA; ten great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews, Jan Nicholson, Barbara McFadyen, Barbara Ries, Diane Cary Scheer, Bruce Weber, Jeff Goldfarb, and John Dutton.
