Sheila K. Jacobsen, 79, a long-time resident of Severna Park, died peacefully May 20 after a lengthy illness.
Born March 26, 1933 in New London, CT to Lauretta Catherine Heavey, RN and Russell Huberton Corcoran, lawyer and U.S. Commissioner, she was raised in New London, graduated from The Williams School, an all-girl high school, and attended nurses training at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
On June 7, 1952, she married Ensign Patrick M. Jacobsen at the United States Coast Guard Academy, the day after he graduated. She enjoyed being a military wife and mother, moving, long car trips with her family, playing the piano, music of all genres, making hats, tailoring, Ikebana and arranging flowers, bridge, her neighborhood friends, her home, and dogs.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, a retired USCG Captain, whom died suddenly and unexpectedly of a massive heart attack on May 31, 2000; her son, Michael Patrick, whom died 1953 in Juneau, Alaska; and her only sibling, Robert Corcoran of New London, CT.
She is survived by two children, Karen M. Evans of Severna Park, and Peter N. Jacobsen of Annapolis.
Memorial visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 30 at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, where a memorial service service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 31. Friends may meet at the Arlington National Cemetery Administration Building 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5 with burial services to follow.
Memorial donations may be made in Sheila's name to The American Lung Association.
