Sharon Diehl Hunsicker, age 78, of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away gently on February 14th, 2026. She was embraced by her loving husband and nearby family, daily, until her final moments. She was one of two daughters born to Carolyn and Lloyd Diehl (both deceased) of Bethesda, Maryland on October 20, 1947. Her younger sister Cindy, unfortunately passed away along with her husband, Rick, during the COVID period.

A dedicated family bond, Sharon is survived by her adoring husband, Frederick P. Hunsicker (Rick) and two wonderful children, Kristin and Eric, their loving spouses. Erik and Julie and four terrific grandchildren, Carter (22), Anna (20), Grace (19), and Ryan (19).

The romance started in 1965, when Rick rescued Sharon from a pack of his admiring “brothers” at a U. of MD fraternity/sorority mixer - they dated all through college and marriage followed in October, 1969. She earned her bachelors and masters degree in special education.

Sharon dedicated her life to others! Her family, of course, but also her career and followup charitable work. A gifted special education teacher (over 30 years) she worked primarily in the Anne Arundel County school system, but also in Howard County, Atlanta and Texas school locations as she supported her husband’s varied career locations. She was awarded “Teacher of the Year” for A.A. Co. in 2006. She was give high praise for her special education talent wherever she taught.

Before and in her retirement years, she enjoyed beaching, golfing, and skiing with Rick, family and friends. Much appreciation goes to the staff at Heartlands Assisted Living in Severna Park and to Hospice of the Chesapeake for their tender care for Sharon during her last days.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Severna Park United Methodist Church (where Sharon and Rick have been 40 year members), 731 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146. A “Celebration of Sharon’s Life” will be held at Chartwell County Club immediately following.
