Deaconess Sarah Maureen Taliaferro
Sarah Maureen Taliaferro, slipped into eternal rest on December 14, 2012 at AAMC, Annapolis, Md. The daughter of the late Alton L. and Lucy Lawson Phillips. She was born October 8, 1919 in King and Queen County, Virginia and was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lee H. Taliaferro.
Under the pastorate of Dr. W.Amos Young,Sarah confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior. She was baptized and joined First Baptist Church of Hockley, Virginia in 1931 and remained a faithful member until death.
Maureen was educated Hockley Snow Hill elementary school. Upon graduating West Point Beverly Allen High School she continued her education at Apex Cosmetology school Richmond, Virginia. Her church, First Baptist Hockley, Va. was the center of her spiritual life. She participated in various organizations and Auxiliaries that made up her church life. Maureen was a devoted member of the Junior and Senior choirs; She taught the intermediate class Sunday School for a number of years. She was a member of the Usher Board for over fifty years,Missionary Circle, and president of Church Workers Aid Club and The Women's Club for many years. She attended weekly Bible study, taught vacation Bible School, Deaconess board, N.A.A.C.P., life time member of Southside Rappahannock Association Division of Women and Baptist General Convention.
Affectionately known as "Ween" leaves to cherish her memory nieces Valerie D. Neal, Mavis Clark, Domminique and Nikayla Wright, Dekria Williams, Arletha Benee Clark, Keasha and Janai Taliaferro; nephews Howard Williams Jr., Albert Taliaferro Jr., Durand Williams I, Derrick Harris, Char Branch Jr., Vance, Kiall, Leon Wright and Zachary Clark; brother-in-law Rev. Albert Taliaferro; and a host of great- nieces, great-nephews,cousins and friends.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Family and friends may visit from 10am to 12noon with Funeral Services to follow on December 22, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Hockley, 2356 York River Road, Shacklefords, VA 23156. Interment will be in Union Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Shacklefords, VA.
