Sarah M. Smith, 95, a resident of Arnold, MD for almost 50 years before retiring to Vero Beach, FL in 1985, died of natural causes on May 27, 2008 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Severna Park, MD.

Mrs. Smith was born on April 6, 1913 in Weddington, N.C.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, ceramics, music and traveling many summers from Vero Beach to Henderson, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Pearl "Major" Smith, who died in 2003; one daughter, Carolyn Snyder of Orlando, FL, who died in 2005; and 4 sisters of Charlotte, N.C.

Before retiring, she and her husband owned and operated Dogwood Mobile Home Park in Arnold, MD.

She was a member of Weems Creek Baptist Church, Annapolis, MD and First Baptist Church of Vero Beach, FL.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Peggy R. Goudy of Severna Park, MD; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Kerry Bailey, Wallace Killough, and Virginia Caldwell, all of Charlotte, NC; and her loving and devoted caregiver, Nancy Jones of Arnold, MD.

Private services and burial will be in Vero Beach, FL on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 3 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
