Samuel G. Shepherd, Jr., 90, died February 7, 2021, in Severna Park, MD. Mr. Shepherd was born in Philadelphia, PA to Samuel G. and Virginia R. Shepherd.
A graduate of the McDonogh School, Mr. Shepherd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning, he earned a degree at Johns Hopkins University and became an electronics engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation until he retired.
He was co-founder and former president of the Severna Park Model Railroad Club, historian for the B & A Trail, and chief editor of the book, Linstead on the Severn: A History (Bay Media, 2006). His interests included travel, computers, reading, doll house carpentry, fixing things, bad puns, and jigsaw puzzles. From boyhood, he and his family spent summers on the South Shore of Sebec Lake, Maine.
Mr. Shepherd is survived by his wife, Diana Shepherd; his brother, John Shepherd; his daughter Beth (and her husband Bill O'Connell), his sons James and Andrew, his stepsons Erik Addington (and his wife Becky) and Brett Addington (and his partner Sarah Ley), and his stepdaughter Holly Kelly (and her husband Brendan); grandchildren Tyler Hartley, Emily Rice, Noah Hartley, Hannah Letourneau, Amethyst Shepherd (and their spouses), Taylor, Patrick, Finnian, Thomas and Cooper Kelly, Milo, Levi, Stella, Tatum and Liam Addington; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara S. Shepherd.
A memorial service will be held this summer in Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sebec Lake Association (PO.
