Sally Elizabeth Hearn (Jordan) was born on May 13, 1940, in Amherst, Virginia, to the late Richard and Carrie Jordan. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and six siblings: Spottswood, Gwendolyn, James, Charles, Donald, and Rodger.

Sally grew up attending Morning Star Baptist Church in Amherst. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland, she joined John Wesley Methodist Church, and later, upon settling in Severna Park, she became a devoted member of Asbury Town Neck Methodist Church.

She was united in marriage to the late Leslie Hearn, with whom she shared a life full of love, faith, and family. Together, they were blessed with two children, Charlita and Leslie Hearn, four grandchildren — Gino Guilano, Tynisha Kelly, Jordan Hearn, and Daymien Hearn — and seven treasured great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to Sally, and her love extended deeply to her siblings, in-laws, and extended family on both sides.

Sally had a lifelong passion for reading and libraries. Her career began at Sweet Briar College Library in Amherst, Virginia. After relocating to Baltimore, she worked within the Pratt Library System before joining the Albin O. Kuhn Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in 1978. Over the years, she became an integral member of the Circulation Department, serving as both Coordinator and later Acting Head of the department. Sally’s dedication and leadership were recognized across the university community. She was an active member of the Council of University System Staff (CUSS) and, in 2000, was honored as the recipient of UMBC’s very first Presidential Distinguished Staff Award for Non-Exempt Staff, celebrating her exceptional service and commitment. Sally retired in 2005 to spend more time with her beloved family.

She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her three sisters who remain to cherish her memory: Elaine Carey (Ronald), Delores Ware (Winston), and Emma Jean Allen (Clinton), along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Sally will be remembered for her warmth, honesty, and sense of humor. She was the kind of person who would tell you the truth — whether you wanted to hear it or not — and she did it with love. She enjoyed sharing her “secret” recipes with a select few and sharing her wisdom with all.

Everyone who knew her truly loved her. Her kindness, strength, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

We would like to give special thanks to our NP, Lakesha Addison Harris, from PrimeCare Adult & Senior Health LLC. Lakesha’s bedside manner, patience, and compassion were truly appreciated.

I would also like to thank the entire staff at Heartlands of Severna Park. Every employee was empathetic, professional, helpful, and reliable, which made this past year more tolerable. We deeply appreciate everyone for accepting and handling the challenges that came with her Dementia and COPD.

Although it was a short time frame, Hospice of the Chesapeake was a welcomed addition to our mother’s care and well-being.

Lastly, to all our family and friends who took the time to visit her during her good days and not-so-good days, thank you!

GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU!
