Sally was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1931 to Earl Franklin Morse and Ethel Gilbert Morse. When Sally and her siblings were young, their parents moved the family to Altadena, California.Sally attended the Westridge School, a girls’ school in Pasadena and graduated from the University of Michigan (the largest coed school she could find!) with a major in Spanish. She met her future husband, John Duker, through a youth group at Pasadena Presbyterian Church and they were married in 1953. John’s business career led to many moves to various places across the UnitedStates, eventually settling in Concord, MA toward the end of John’s work life. Throughout their many moves, Sally always chose where the family would live based on the quality of the public school system, making sure her daughters had access to a first-class education. His work in international marketing resulted in many wonderful trips to Europe and close friends in France,Switzerland and Germany. Sally and John retired to Columbia, Maryland and enjoyed many years of travel, sports, classical music, and opera as well as all that Washington, D.C. had to offer.

Sally was an avid amateur genealogist, doing research and writing books for family about both hers and John’s lives and ancestors. She loved quilting, embroidery, knitting and other crafts and her daughters and grandchildren are the beneficiaries of her handiwork. She loved nature and a broad range of art and music, passing these passions on to her daughters.

Throughout all of their moves, Sally remained involved with P.E.O. International (Philanthropic Educational Organization), a sisterhood of women whose mission is to help women around the world advance through education. One of Sally’s deepest pleasures was meeting impressive women who lacked funds for education and linking them to P.E.O’s Scholarship Program. She cherished her deep friendships with many of her P.E.O. sisters.
