S. Scott Kirkley of Severna Park passed away on May 18, 2016 at the age of 64 after a long battle with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.
Scott was born March 23, 1952 to the late G. Scott and Marian W. Kirkley. He attended Wroxeter Academy and McDonogh prior to Princeton University, graduating with a major in Economics in 1974.
After graduation Scott worked in management at Bethesda Country Club, Indian Spring County Club, Dockside Restaurant and as Food and Beverage Director at the Baltimore Hilton Hotel. In 1979 he took over ownership of The Library Restaurant in Annapolis. In 1982 he became part of the team owning Bogies Restaurant, also in Annapolis.
During his days as a restauranteur Scott began serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Pompei Permanent Building and Loan Association, later to become Severn Savings Bank. After selling the restaurants Scott became part of the management team of Severn Savings Bank, retiring in 2009 as Executive Vice President.
Scott attended Leadership Anne Arundel in 1996 and helped establish the 21 st Century Education Foundation to assist Anne Arundel County Public Schools. He also served on the Board of Severn School for many years and was a passionate advocate for affordable housing in Anne Arundel County.
In addition to his love of work, Scott enjoyed traveling, particularly to Disney World, Ocean City and San Francisco, playing and watching lacrosse, and meeting and learning about new people.
Scott is survived by his wife Martha; daughters Amy (Patrick) and Kimberly; and four grandchildren Trevor, Savannah, Pippi and Scotty. He is also survived by his sister Susan (Craig) and nephews Tyler (Jess), Marshall, Jason (Catherine) and Travis.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 24th from 6-8 pm and on Wednesday, May 25th from 11-12 noon with the Memorial Service to follow at noon. Interment will be private.
