On October 15 Ruthe Nash Wolverton, of Shelburne VT and Severna Park MD made the journey to be with her beloved husband Walter who predeceased her in 2007. Born in New London on February 13, 1923, Ruthe graduated from Connecticut College in 1944 and went to Washington, DC to work on Capitol Hill for Senator Claude Pepper. She married her soul-mate, Walter Hunter Wolverton, in 1945. Ruthe made careers in real estate in Huntington, NY and at the League of Women Voters National Office in Washington, DC as well as volunteered for multiple organizations. After retirement, Ruthe co-wrote books with her husband on National Seashores and National Parks. Nature lovers forever, they established a conservation easement on Eagle Island in Addison Maine to provide perpetual nesting areas for bald eagles.
Ruthe is survived by her three children and spouses, Dean Nash Wolverton and Sandy of Maryland, Susan Wolverton Ligon and George of Vermont and Adrian Slate Wolverton and Alison of Wyoming; 6 grandchildren, Tiffany Bailey and her husband Robert, Travis Wolverton Ligon, Sarah Wolverton, Luke Wolverton, Matthew Wolverton, Kimberly Wolverton; and her cherished sister Florabel Nash Schmidt and spouse Sheldon of Virginia. She was predeceased by siblings LeRoy A. Nash Jr., Clayton Nash, Gordon Nash and Betty Nash Barnes.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday November 12, 2011 at 11:00am in the Barranco & Sons, P.A Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park, MD 21146. Private burial in Noank, CT. Memorial contributions can be made to the Downeast Coastal Conservancy in Maine.
