Ruth L. Dent, 92, a resident of Severna Park, died October 11, 2014 at Sunrise of Severna Park.
Ruth was born in Empire, Michigan to Margaret and George Deering. Ruth traveled to Washington, DC in 1942, to work for the War Department, where she met James (Jim) Dent. Ruth and Jim married in 1946 and moved to Severna Park, MD in 1948 to raise their family. They remained married until Jim's death in 2008.
During their marriage, Ruth and Jim had nine children and Ruth spent years raising her family. After her youngest child was off to school, Ruth went to work for Farmer's National Bank in Severna Park. Ruth enjoyed the camaraderie of her coworkers and seeing many of the local Severna Park residents as part of her work day.
In 1988, Ruth and Jim retired to Barefoot Bay, FL and, while living there, spent many years traveling and seeing the sights of North America with the Airstream Travel Trailer Club. In 2002, Ruth and Jim returned to Severna Park to live out the remainder of their years surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
Ruth was an avid reader, loved playing cards (particularly Bridge), enjoyed attending the Naval Academy Band concerts, took great pleasure in the beauty of the Severn River, and was a faithful supporter of many charities. Ruth was also a devout Catholic and found comfort in the practice of her religion.
