Ruth Elizabeth Jacoby Barrett, 94, died peacefully April 15, 2024, in her home. She was born September 22, 1929 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, the daughter of F. Augustine and Ruth E. Jacoby.

Ruth graduated from Mount Carmel High School, in Mount Carmel, PA, Class of 1947. Following graduation, she attended Immaculata University in East Whiteland Township, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

After college, she married her sweetheart, Martin Dominic Barrett, settling in Harrisburg, PA starting their family. They then moved to Hartsdale, NY. They were often seen at The Copacabana and society events in New York City. While in New York, Ruth was a teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School and sold real estate both in New York and Maryland. They later moved to East Greenwich, Rhode Island and then to Severna Park, MD where they lived in the community of Chartwell for 42 years. Ruth moved to Chester, MD on Kent Island in 2012.

Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, William A. Jacoby and her husband, Martin D. Barrett, after 49 years of marriage.

Ruth is survived by her children Martin W. Barrett (Susan). Mary Barrett Brennan (Kevin), Megan Barrett Cook (Mitch d. 2013) and Candy Barrett Harrison (Pat). She has 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, John Jacoby and niece Ann Jacoby Rosenberger and her children.

An Irish wake will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Barranco Funeral Home in Severna Park, MD, from 4pm-7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30am at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church in Millersville, MD with interment to follow.
