Ruby Frances Baines, 82, a resident of Arnold since 1953, died of natural causes June 30 at home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Baines was born Jan. 22, 1923, and raised in Culpeper, Va., and also lived in Reva, Va. In 1946 she married Albert Richard Baines Jr. and the couple moved to Brooklyn.
During the 1960s she helped sponsor the Teenets Square Dance Youth Group that met at the former Harundale Mall in Glen Burnie. She was also active with a square dance group in Arnold called the Thunderbird Twirlers, which traveled to the other clubs in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
She taught Bible school at Asbury United Methodist Church for many years and was a Cub Scout den mother. Her interests included horseback riding, cooking, sewing and gardening.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Albert Richard Baines III of Kent Island and Blake Randall Baines of Savage; two brothers, William Brown of Reva and Thomas Brown of Tillanook, Ore.; four sisters, Ida Mae Shaw and Margaret Burgess, both of Reva, Catherine Burgess of Leesburg, Va., and Ruth Hicks of Texas; one grandson; and two great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
