On Wednesday, July 7, 2021, Ronald Matovcik, loving husband, uncle, and stepfather, passed away at the age of 74.

Ron was born on September 15, 1946 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania.  He served in the Army Infantry between 1966 and 1968, completing Officer Candidate School and achieving the rank of Lieutenant before concluding his service as a forward observer in Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Heart medals.

After his tour of duty, he attended University of Maryland where he received his Bachelor's degree in economics and a Master of Business Administration. He went on to become President of Laurel Sand & Gravel, where he worked for 39 years and became a prominent figure in the industry.

Ron loved to cook, and shared his talents in the kitchen with family and friends who visited his home on the water. In his spare time, Ron could often be found fishing off Podickery Point, or crabbing in the Magothy River.

Ron is survived by his wife, Lana; step-daughter, Carey Perlozzo; brother-in-law, Jerry Slagle; niece, Shawn Hughes; and nephew, Jeffrey Slagle.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held Saturday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD, 21146.
