Ronald (Ronnie) Wayne Ashburn of Delmar, Delaware, formerly of Brooklyn Park, Maryland, passed into eternity on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at home with his wife, Patricia Ann Ashburn, née Smelter, and beloved Labrador Retriever, Penny Lane, by his side.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Bruce J. Ashburn and wife, JoAnn, and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews all whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his father, William F. Ashburn, Sr., his mother, Marie D. Ashburn, née Rosewag, his brother William F. Ashburn, Jr., his sister, Dorothy M. Deel, née Ashburn, his brother Timothy A. Ashburn, and his sister Betty Estep, neé Ashburn, and his Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe Payne.

Ronnie proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Navy and survived the gun turret explosion aboard the U.S.S. Newport News (CA 148) while providing gun cover for U.S. ground forces off the coast of South Vietnam in 1972.

Ronnie worked over 40 years as a diesel technician at American Tank Transport, Leaseway Transportation, and Penske Truck Leasing in Baltimore.

Ronnie's pastimes included hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time through the years with his canine companions, Kibbles, Abigail, Morgan, Jasmine, and Penny Lane.

Viewing will be on Wednesday, October 23rd from 3-7 pm and Service with Military Honors on Thursday, October 24th at 1 pm. The Viewing and Service will be held at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, Maryland 21146.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice of the Delmar Peninsula LLC, 20165 Office Circle, Unit #2, North Building, Georgetown Professional Park, Georgetown, Delaware 19947 or Brandywine Valley SPCA, 22918 Dupont Boulevard, Georgetown, Delaware 19947.
