Roma Belle Castle Strait of Severna Park passed quietly and peacefully in her sleep in the arms of loving family members on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born in Wheeling, Missouri on May 19, 1933 to John and Ethyl Castle, the youngest of eight children. During her adolescent years her family moved to Billings, Montana where she met and married her high school sweetheart. She supported her husband and growing family during his 28 year career as an United States Air Force facility engineering management officer and subsequent civilian design and construction manager positions took them to Massachusetts, France, California, Ohio, Alabama, South Carolina, Hawaii, Washington, DC, Germany, Florida, and Maryland as well as two one year unaccompanied Air Force assignments. Besides raising a caring, loving, and close family she enjoyed reading, birding, flowers, and growing spider plants and Christmas cactus.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dale Strait; daughters Candesa "Candy" Strait of Billings, Montana, Sinclair Louise "Sindy" McMichael of Delta, Utah, and Calandra "Calli" Blok of Ocala, Florida; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister and two brothers. A fourth daughter, Aurora, an Rh baby, died shortly after birth.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park MD 21146 on Wednesday, December 11 at 11 AM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Martin's-in-the-Field Outreach Fund.
