Zerphey

Robert George Zerphey, of Arnold, passed away on October 16, 2022. He was born to Harvey and Beulah Zerphey on December 30, 1934 in Cambeltown, PA. Robert was raised near Hershey, PA in Sands Hill. He later lived on a farm in Elizabethtown Rd in Hershey. He joined the Air Force and had lived in various places around the world, including Honsha, Japan, Riverside, CA, Ekenbach, Germany, Ft. Meade, MD, and Darmstadt, Germany. He attended Furman's School, Deodate, Hershey Highschool, Riverside Jr. College, and then the University of Maryland where he earned is BA in History. He then earned his MS in Personnel Administration at George Washington University. In addition to being in the Air Force, Robert worked for the NSA, and taught History at Andover High School/Learning Center. He did volunteer work with ROADS, prison ministry, and was a chaplain to the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the Severna Park Elks, the Air Force Srgt. Association and the Retired Teachers association. Robert enjoyed being involved with Church, playing golf and reading. He loved traveling and visiting civil war battlefields. He also enjoyed watching movies, coaching and watching his beloved grandsons in sports.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Zerphey, and his son Daniel Zerphey. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Gates and her husband Robert of Lander, WY; his sister Leona Yeagley of Elizabethtown, PA; his daughter-in-law Theresa Zerphey of Federalsburg, MD; as well as his grandsons Andrew Zerphey of Philadelphia, PA, Caleb Gates of Yucca Valley, CA, Samuel Gates of Millikan, CO, Ransom Gates of Loveland, CO, and Benjamin Gates of Lander, WY.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 10am to 11:30am at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. A funeral service will be held at 11:30am at the funeral home. Interment will be on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 1pm at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD, 21032. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ROADS Ministry at 3615 Maroon Ln, Bowie, MD, 20715; or to Mt Hope at 25 Summit Ave., P.O. Box 1511, Hagerstown, MD, 21741.
