Annapolis – Robert M. ("Bob") Wright, 73, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died after a long illness on June 23, 2012 at his home in St.
Margaret's.
Mr. Wright had been a resident of the Arnold and Annapolis areas since 1968. Born in Natick, Massachusetts on April 26, 1939, Mr. Wright graduated from Colby College in Maine in 1961, where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC program as well as the baseball team. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. He served in Viet Nam from 1963 to 1964. Upon the end of his tour, he was stationed in Ft. Meade, Maryland. It was in Ft. Meade that he met his future wife, Nancy Lucille Watkins of Newport News, Virginia.
Mr. Wright and Miss Watkins were married in June of 1966, and remained so for 46 years.
Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Wright attended the University of Maryland School of Law, from which he graduated in 1968; he was an editor of the law review. He joined the Baltimore law firm of Whiteford, Taylor, Preston in 1968; he was awarded partner status in 1971, a position which he maintained until his death. His area of specialty was construction law, working for most of his career in engineering and construction contracts and litigation. Upon leaving the active practice of law, he mediated or arbitrated over 300 cases of dispute. Held in high regard by his peers, he was widely published in multiple legal journals, and was listed as a "Best lawyer in America" in his field from 2006 until 2011. He was also listed as one of Baltimore's "Legal Elite" in Baltimore SmartCEO Magazine in 2006, as well as a Maryland "Super Lawyer" from 2007 to 2011.
In 1995, he earned his private pilot certificate. Over the next several years, he continued his training, earning commercial and instrument ratings before becoming a certificated flight instructor. He continued to fly and teach until December of 2010, accumulating more than 1500 total flight hours.
Mr. Wright was a lifelong student of history, a talented photographer, and an avid golfer. In his retirement, he donated legal services to the members of the Maryland Defense Fund and their families.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Annapolis; his son Charles ("Chip") Wright of Hebron, Kentucky; his daughter Alexandra Wright Caffrey of Malta, NY; and four grandchildren, Piper and Sydney of Chip, and Madeline and Liam of Alexandra. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Wright.
A Memorial gathering and service will be held on Saturday July 7, 2012 from 1-2:00pm with the service to follow at the Barranco & Sons,P.A Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park, Md 21146. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
