Retired Army National Guard Maj. Robert Allen Taylor Jr., 48, of Severna Park, died Aug. 22 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Maj. Taylor was born Jan. 7, 1959, in Greenville, S.C., and was reared in Dover, Del. He attended the University of South Carolina, became a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and graduated in 1985 from the University of Delaware.

He served 17 years in the Delaware Army National Guard before retiring as a major. He was the former co-owner of SG Data and also held various sales positions.

His interests included hunting, fishing, football, the Washington Redskins, attending his sons' sporting events, cooking, gardening and reading. He was known for his sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife, Toby Celia Taylor, whom he married Oct. 6, 1985; two sons, Nathan and Adam Taylor of Severna Park; his parents, Robert Allen Taylor Sr. and Suzonne Stewart Taylor of Dover; and one sister, Suzonne S. Davids of Severna Park.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, Duke University Medical Center, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710.
