It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Robert Russell Smith III of Severna Park who left us peacefully at home on December 23, 2025 at the age of 83. He was born in Charleston, WV to Robert Russell Smith, Jr. and Virginia Estaline Laing on July 15, 1942 and was a devoted spouse to Dixie for 44 years with whom he shared a life full of love.

Bob grew up in Lewisburg, WV where he attended Greenbrier Military School before graduating from West Virginia University in 1964. He was recruited by and worked for the National Security Agency until his retirement in 1991. He later worked part-time for Winchester Creek Outfitters in Grasonville until its closing in early 2009. Bob's greatest loves were his faith, family and fishing. Bob served as a deacon at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer driver for the winter relief program for many years. He spent many hours volunteering for SPY swimming, the Fair Oaks swim team, and Folger McKinsey Elementary School. Bob was a member of Free State Fly Fishers Club of Annapolis. On one of his fishing trips to Harkers Island, NC, he met President George Herbert Walker Bush, a fellow angler. He tied many of his own flies and enjoyed fishing in Belize, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Bob had a generous spirit and was willing to help anyone at anytime. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.He is survived by his wife, Dixie, his children Robert, Leticia, and Laura, and his grandchildren Ryan, Sean, Connor, Hunter, and Noah.

A memorial service will be held at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church on January 17 at 1:00 pm.
