Robert Smith, 68, a resident of Severna Park for 22 years, died on December 31, 2007. He was born in Philadelphia, P A on March 18, 1939 to Raymond Frances Smith and Alberta Mae Reese Smith. He graduated from Yarmouth High School in Yarmouth, Massachusetts where he met his beloved wife Barbara B. Smith. He served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1966, including service in Vietnam. During his military career, he served on the team that provided the military escort around the world for John Glenn's Mercury Capsule. While in the military, he took courses at the University of New Hampshire. Following his military service, he worked as a Senior Instructor and later as a Regional Manager for Honeywell Information Systems. He retired from Young and Watson, Inc. in Arnold, MD, where he worked as an office manager. He was known for his delightful sense of humor and his love for trains, Civil War trivia, and travel. Christmas was his favorite time of year and he had an extensive Santa collection. He was an active member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and Clerk of Session for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Barbara B. Smith of Severna Park, MD; his two children, Robert W. Smith of Halethorpe, MD, and Pamela L. Smith of Crofton, MD. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Zachary Ray Smith and Amelia Kristina Smith of Halethorpe, MD; his mother, Alberta Mae Smith of Andover, Massachusetts; and his sister, Patricia S. Olender, of Andover, Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, MD on Monday, January 7, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
