Robert (Bob) John Ruck Sr. (1933-2024)

Born May 7, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland to John and Josephine Ruck.

Robert had many accomplishments. He received a B.S in Industrial Arts and a master's degree in administration from East Carolina University in 1960. He also served 8 years in the Naval Reserves. Following college, he was a beloved teacher of drafting, industrial arts, and drivers' education at Severna Park High School from 1960-1978, then worked at Westinghouse, now known as Northrop Grumman as a test engineer. He retired in 1994. He is loved by many friends and former students because of his strong will and perseverance that drove him through life.

Bob was a passionate outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, traveling, hiking, biking, and camping. He hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Harper's Ferry which took 5 months and was over 1,000 miles. While sailing, he raced the Chesapeake 20 and went onto sail with his beloved wife Mary, The Hobie 16 from 1972-1992. Even in his final moments, he would mimic tying flies and would always smile when someone mentioned fishing. He camped all over the United States and Canada, avidly fly fished, and was a member of numerous clubs such as Free State Flyfishing Club, Pasadena Sportfishing Group, The Trail Blazers, & Hobie 16 Fleet 54. His travels took him to beautiful places such as Belize, Australia, Norway, Bahamas, Yellowstone, and Europe.

Robert John Ruck and Mary Elizabeth Lee married on June 29, 1963, they shared a beautiful 61 and a half years together. During their marriage they shared many travels and had their beloved three children.

Robert is survived by his sister Catherine M Ruck; brothers John F. Ruck Jr. & David P. Ruck, his son Robert J. Ruck Jr of Glen Burnie, MD (Kathleen Ruck & Alex Colvin), daughter Diane R. Berge of Kill Devil Hills, NC, son Stephen F. Ruck of Annapolis, MD (Kristin Davidson-Ruck, Savannah Davidson) his grandchildren Marin E. Ruck of Arnold, MD, Thomas Berge (Emma Berge) of Raliegh, NC, Ashley Berge of Kill Devil Hills, NC, & his two great-grandchildren Phillip and Braelynn.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday January 3, 2025 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.  A memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Saturday January 4, 2025 at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church 689 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
