IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert George
Rex, Jr.
March 15, 1979 – November 16, 2020
Robert George Rex, Jr. passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 41 years old from complications of glioblastoma.
Rob was born in Binghamton, New York on March 15, 1979. He attended Radnor High School in PA. He then went on to graduate from the engineering school at The University of Virginia in 2001 where he majored in computer science. Rob had a deep love of reading, math, sports and video games. According to Rob he was a self-proclaimed nerd with enough cool years in there to land a wife.
Rob met Jennifer Dunham Rex at a classy party in DC. Rob and Jenn fell quickly in love and, as Rob liked to joke, he lost an arm-wrestling match and ended up moving from Boston to Baltimore to be with Jenn. Together they were blessed with four children, Lucas Cameron (10), Taylor Katharine (8), Katharine Elizabeth "Kate" (6), and Robert "Grayson" (3). Rob was more proud of his children than anything else in his life. He loved game nights, family vacations, amusement parks and spending time with his kids at Chartwell. He loved to watch Luke play lacrosse and discuss books. He loved to watch Taylor dance and Kate play soccer. He loved watching Grayson riding waves on his boogie board. Rob's family was his everything.
If Rob was around you knew it. He filled up a room and made life more fun for everyone who met him. Rob was an extrovert in the purest sense, always the eternal optimist. He was powered by people and he was truly grateful for each day. He was incredibly smart with an unmatchable work ethic. Rob built a career around technology-enabled experiences, entrepreneurship, and media (particularly digital). He started Power Target, LLC which was the highlight of his career.
Rob loved sports and competition in general, but golf was his favorite outlet as it allowed him to combine his two favorite vices (a few drinks, and the occasional wager – all within reason of course…). Rob was always very active as were his kids and family. He loved to just get out and "do stuff." Rob was always up for an adventure, from running with the bulls, following UVA along their road to the national championship, an African safari or a guys' trip to anywhere. Rob loved to travel and his very favorite place to spend time with his family was in Palm Hills in Hillsboro, FL.
Rob lived well and packed an incredible amount of life into a short time. Rob's legacy will live on in his children. In addition to his wife and children, Rob is survived by his parents Bob and Shari Rex, his sister Emily Rex and Matt Williams, in-laws Allen and Carol Dunham, Scott and Rachel Dunham and more friends and family than you could count.
Due to COVID restrictions, the family will hold a small private funeral service and will truly celebrate Rob's life at a later date in the way he would have wanted, with a full room, hugs, cocktails, laughter, stories, pictures, golf and high fives all around.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations are made to support Adolescent Mental Healthcare at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center's Pediatric Emergency Department. We will be renovating the AAMC Pediatrics' playroom. Your gift may be made payable to the AAMC Foundation, with a note in the memo line of the check "In memory of Rob Rex." Please mail contributions to the AAMC Foundation, 2000 Medical Parkway, Belcher Pavilion Suite 604, Annapolis, MD 21041. To make your gift by phone call 443-481-4799.
Remember Rob's favorite saying, "Life is good!"
"The love and laughter will live on long after all of the sadness and the tears. You will meet again."
