Robert Reid of Severna Park died on February 19, 2011 with this family by his side. He was an avid boater, dedicated gardener, expert ham radio operator and above all, a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1920, he served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator in the South Pacific during World War II and attended Seton Hall College in New Jersey. He settled in Severna Park with his family in 1970. He had a 40+ year career as a business executive with the American Oil Company, served as Commodore of the Belvedere Yacht Club, and President of the North Cape Arthur Homeowners Association and Community Pool.


His quiet confidence and warm smile provided sunshine to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Loretta Bowen Reid; his children: Diane Dunn of Redondo Beach CA and her husband Richard, Karen Reid of Alexandria VA, and Robert Reid of Westborough, MA; his grandchildren Robert, Julianne, Olivia and Mathew; his sister Rosemary Paynter of Short Hills NJ; and his many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Barranco Funeral Home in Severna Park, MD on Friday, February 25, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary's Church in Annapolis, MD on Saturday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. with the interment to be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD on Monday, February 28 at 10:45 a.m.
