Robert Reeves Reid, 87, a resident of Stewart's Landing in Severna Park for 1 ½ years, died suddenly on April 3, 2009 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD, from a stroke after a short illness.
He was born on July 19, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to his parents, the late Clarence and Helen Reid. He was raised in Philadelphia, lived in Rosemont, PA, Basking Ridge, NJ, Valley Forge, PA and Exton, PA prior to moving to Severna Park, MD.
Mr. Reid received his BSME with distinction in 1943 from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. He worked for 15 years for General Electric Reentry Systems in Valley Forge, PA and worked 17 years for Civil Service for the Department of the Army as a Supervisory Systems Engineer for ARRADCOM.
He was a WWII Veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1944-1946, before he was honorably discharged.
Mr. Reid was a member of Tau Beta Pi & Sigma Tau Engineering Societies. His interests were Classical Music & piano, History and Literature.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jean Reid (nee Slack), whom he married on February 19, 1944 and his son, Robert H. Reid.
Survivors include his son, Tom Reid and daughter-in-law Judith Reid of Severna Park; five grandchildren, Tim Reid of Orlando, Fl, Gina DeSilva of Manchester, NJ, Elizabeth Reid of Grasonville, MD, Kit and Isaac Reid of Severna Park; and one great-grandson, Paul T. DeSilva of Manchester, NJ.
There will be a memorial mass offered on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 1:00 pm at St. Andrew By the Bay, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409. An interment will be held at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA on May 2, 2009.
