Robert G. Nelson, 78, a resident of Severna Park, died of respiratory failure, after a lengthy illness, on February 19 at Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum Maryland.
Mr. Nelson was born July 31, 1929, in Highspire, PA, where he was raised.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Irene in 1953.
He graduated from University of Montana with a Wildlife Biology Degree. He was an Assistant Manager and Manager of National Wildlife Refuges. In 1970, he began working at the Department of Interior in Washington D.C., where he was a Hunter Safety Coordinator. During his career in Washington D.C., he lived in the Cape St. Claire Community of Annapolis from 1970-1989. He retired in 1989. Following his retirement, he moved to Fairfield, PA. In June 2006, he came to Severna Park, MD.
He was a past President and member of Fairfield Lions Club in Fairfield, PA. He was a member of the Toastmasters of America Association.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking and photography, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene M. Nelson, who died on January 09, 2001 and son Robert W. Nelson who died in 2002.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Schindler of Severna Park, MD, Lori Sewell of Fairfield, PA, and Lana Condon of Bel Air, MD; one brother, Jack Nelson of Valpariso, Indiana; and 11 grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 6-9 pm (with a service at 7:30 pm) on Friday, February 22 at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home at 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, February 23 at noon at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Fairfeld, PA. Officiating clergy will be Pastor Mark Sewell.
