Robert Louis Milone, Sr. passed away at the age of 97 on Monday, May 13, 2024. He transitioned peacefully, holding the hand of the love of his life, Jean Milone.
Bob was born December 29, 1926 in Livingston New Jersey the eldest of Louis and Antonia Thomma Milone.
Bob attended West Orange High School, where he was the class president and excelled in sports. Bob is famously remembered for his touchdown pass that defeated the unbeaten Westfield team. Bob was later inducted into the WOHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bob matriculated to Duke University and graduated in 1947 with a degree in electrical engineering and a commission in the United States Navy. His work as an aerospace engineer and with data management systems for Weston Industries and Litton Industries supported programs such as missile defense as well as projects used in the moon landings in the 1960s.
Bob married his high school best friend, Jean Imgrund, in 1949. Their five children were the pride and joy of his life. When his children were young, Bob spent much of his free time involved with their activities. He volunteered for Dayton Dolphins and youth league sports. Bob was a voracious reader and loved history, especially the Civil War. On travels from Ohio to the Jersey shore, Bob took the opportunity to share his knowledge with his children on the battlefields of Gettysburg and Antietam. Bob spent hours working in the yard with his dog Charlie greeting the neighbors. Bob loved people. They enjoyed traveling with lifelong friends from New Jersey, Ohio, and Maryland, Bob and Jean opened a gift shop, the Little House, in Severna Park His volunteer work as a driver for Partners in Care and his dedication to ushering at Our Lady of the Fields gave him opportunities to engage with others.
Bob is survived by his wife of almost 75 years, Jean Milone, his daughters Buffy Jordan (Sandy), Megan Davis (Stephen, Sr.), Laurie Milone, his grandchildren Caroline Petrovick (Bethany), Stephen Davis,Jr. (Annie), Melinda Davis, Gretchen DeVinney (Sean), Courtney Davis, Jack Davis, Catherine Davis, Christopher Davis and great-grandchildren Lucy Petrovick, Arthur Petrovick, Grant Petrovick, Stephen Davis,III, Peter Davis, Thomas DeVinney, and Hannah DeVinney
Bob was preceded in death by his children Melinda Milone, Robert Milone, Jr., John Milone, and his grandson John Petrovick.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday May 16, 2024 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday May 17, 2024 at 12:00pm at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church 1070 Cecil Ave S, Millersville, MD 21108. Interment at the church cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
John Petrovick Scholarship Fund at Archbishop Spalding High School.
