Robert (Bob) Gene Marshall (87), passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on April 14, 2018 at his home. He was a resident of Arnold, MD for over 39 years and previously a 20 year resident of Glen Burnie, MD.
Born on December 30, 1930, Bob was born and raised in Wessington, SD. After high school Bob attended Huron College and then enlisted in the US Navy. While in the Navy his good friend, Dean McGillivrey, introduced Bob to his sister, JoAnne McGillvrey of Wolsey, SD. Bob and JoAnne married in 1956 and spent fifty-four great years together.
During Bob's time in the US Navy he served in Japan and Korea. After his service in the Navy, Bob pursued his education at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, CA and earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. He graduated in 1960 and soon found employment with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Baltimore, MD. During his thirty-two year career, he was involved with many different radar and aircraft systems and was able to travel the world.
In retirement, Bob loved spending time with his family. He loved being on the water and crabbing with his children and grandchildren. Bob was an avid Orioles fan and had been a season ticket holder for over 25 years. He spent much of his free time volunteering with SPAN, the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC), and other local organizations. Bob also had quite the green thumb and enjoyed growing his garden every year. Bob also enjoyed music and was a long time member of the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum (PAAL) and later the Severna Park Concert Series.
Bob is survived by his son Todd Marshall of Pasadena, MD; two daughters Paige Hering and husband Daniel Sr. of Annapolis, MD; and Britt Marshall of Glen Burnie, MD as well as five grandchildren, Daniel Hering, Jr., Khristofer Hering and wife Rachel, Blair Doran and husband Adam, Garritt Hering, and Chelsey Simonds and her husband Robert and two great granddaughters, Natalie Joanne Hering and Ella Rose Doran. Bob is also survived by one brother Lloyd Marshall and his wife Kay of Lake Kiowa, TX.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday April 23, 2018 at 11:00A.M. in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 461 College Pkwy. Arnold, MD 21012. Interment will be private in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery.Visits: 3
