Robert L. Landers Jr., 58, a resident of Whitney Landing in Severna Park, died July 28 at home after a sudden illness.
Born Dec. 30, 1945, in Denver, Mr. Landers earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland in College Park and served in the Army.
Mr. Landers worked for the University of Maryland and Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C., where he was certified scuba instructor. He also was owner and operator of Bob Landers Scuba Shoppe in Rockville from 1974 to 1997.
He was a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church, NAUI, National Rifle Association and local boating clubs.
Among his interests were diving, boating, reading, tinkering on his boats, lobstering and researching North Atlantic shipwrecks.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy L. Widell Landers, whom he married in 1981; four sisters, Carol Beall of Frederick, Joan Chapman of Houston, Cyndy Landers of Orlando, Fla., and Marylynne Rahlson of Concord, N.H.; and his stepmother, Mary Landers of Orlando.
He was the son of Robert L. Landers, who died on July 3 this year.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road in Severna Park. Burial will be private.
