Robert Lammens, 89, a longtime resident of Severna Park, MD, died of natural causes on June 26, 2012 at Genesis Eldercare in Severna Park.

Born in Ridgewood, N.J. to Edward and Julia Lammens, he attended Ridgewood High School where he was a tennis champion.

Robert was a gunner in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Italy during World War II.

Following his military service, he attended Fairleigh Dickenson College where he met his wife Margaret. He then graduated from New York University with a degree in advertising and marketing.

Robert was an executive with General Electric in the textalite division in Cochocton, OH. Later, he was vice president of the former Nevamar Corp. in Odenton, MD.

He opened and managed the former Shavitz furniture store in Arnold, MD.

Robert then became an entrepreneur and was well known in the professional uniform rental business.

He enjoyed tennis, golf, and as a weather-watcher, loved a good snowstorm. In his heyday you would find him with a good cigar and a gin martini.

Robert adored his grandchildren and was a Ravens and Baltimore Orioles fan. He was a good provider and loving husband to his wife, and a thoughtful and knowledgeable father to his four children.

He passed on his love of Rehoboth Beach to his family by establishing annual retreats to the ocean.

He was always willing to help people and was beloved by all of his relatives.

Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Lammens and three daughters: Laura Lammens, Lindy Lammens-Anderkin (Elliot, Sr.), Leslie Lammens-Hunt (Robert) all of Severna Park.
He was affectionately known as "Papare" to his three grandchildren; Elliot Anderkin Jr., Kelsey and Brad Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Patrick Lammens, his parents Edward and Julia Lammens, one sister, Margaret Lobb, and two brothers, Maurice and Achilles Lammens.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. July 5 at the Crownsville Veteran's cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd.
