Robert W. Jobes (Bob), family man, sports enthusiast, lover of travel and learning, died comfortably on May 25, 2022. He was 87 years old.

Bob was born on October 5, 1934, to Robert (Mert) and Bernice Jobes in Burlington, NJ. Growing up, Bob developed his love for all things Phillies, basketball, and hanging out with his uncles picking peaches for harvest. Bob was the first in his extended family to attend college and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT in 1956. He started his career as a mechanical engineer with RCA in Camden, NJ. After a chance meeting to pick up keys to the YMCA to play basketball, Bob also picked up the key to his heart from Louise Sever. They were married May 25, 1957, and happily started a family, raising Deborah (Debbie), Lynda, and Robert Jr. (Rob).

Taking advantage of an opportunity, Bob and Louise moved their family to Maryland in 1963. Bob continued his career as a mechanical engineer with Westinghouse in Linthicum, MD, where he worked on defense radar systems until his retirement in 1994. Bob enjoyed playing basketball through the Jaycees, card parties with friends, neighborhood pick-up basketball games in his backyard, and following NCAA basketball. He and Louise were original season ticket holders of the Baltimore Ravens, after that other team snuck away in the middle of the night. The Phillies remained nearest and dearest to his heart and he and Louise would spend winter vacations on Sanibel Island, FL while attending spring training and rubbing elbows with his favorite players.

Bob drove his family on many adventures across the country with pop-up tent trailer in tow, visiting National Parks, museums, notable sites, beaches, and the occasional Stuckey's (don't look!). A summer was never complete without long stays at their shore house on Long Beach Island, NJ, including annual Easter picnics at the Deer Woods and 4th of July parties with extended family. Bob instilled in his family the importance of togetherness, relaxation, and continued learning and was only too happy to read to you the latest news if you weren't up to date. Bob was affectionately known as "Mr. Fix-It" by his family and magically repaired and maintained, with the use of duct tape and caulk, just about anything! In retirement, Bob enjoyed woodworking, including making at least 12 Adirondack chairs and refinishing desks for all 5 of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his hobby of buying and collecting books, postcards and more from yard sales and auctions and selling them on Ebay. He was an avid reader and always enjoyed a good western, in print or on the screen.

Bob and Louise traveled throughout the US, Europe and the Middle East with the Elderhostel educational travel group, the Hilltoppers travel group, and through their church, Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, MD. He and Louise always took the time to participate in every significant event in the lives of their children and grandchildren including graduations, dance recitals, concerts, weddings, and holidays. Bob was also part of the church family and served as a deacon and as a session member over his years at Woods Memorial.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise, his children, Debbie and (Dave) Gardiner, Lynda and (Ed) Hertz, and Rob and (Ettaly) Jobes, in addition to his 5 grandchildren, Hillary and (Jon), Michael, Eric, Benjamin and (Kerri), Abigail, and his great grandson, Isaac. He is also survived by his sister, Margery Brotz.

A memorial service will be held at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in memory of Robert W. Jobes, Sr.
