Robert "Bob" David Hamill of Severna Park Maryland passed peacefully on February 5 ^th .  He leaves behind his brother James "Jim" Hamill; his children Deborah Hamill and her husband Brooks, Eric Hamill and his wife Ariane, and Yvette Hamill-Graves and her husband Jerry; and his grandchildren Robert Harrelson, Stephanie Graves, Aiden Hamill, and Connor Hamill.  Bob has returned home to his wife, Helen Jean Hamill, and his sisters Mary Judith Hamill and Patricia Jean Hamill.

Bob was born May 12, 1933 in Wilkinsburg Pennsylvania to James Leo Hamill and Dorothy Warner Hamill. Bob and his brother Jim grew up on a farm in Windber Pennsylvania. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and earned the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  After returning home from the war, he met his wife Helen in Washington DC, settling in Maryland to raise their children.  He worked as a cartographer for the Federal Census Bureau, retiring after 25 years of public service, and as a volunteer for the Smithsonian Institute which he especially loved.  Seeing children explore the Smithsonian's collections made him very happy.

Bob loved art in all forms. His own art included paintings, woodwork, drawings, music, and baking. He loved gardening; he filled his gardens with flowers, fruit & flowering trees, vegetables, herbs, and sculptural fountains.  He was also an avid reader and had an extensive book collection.

Bob loved to travel around the world and across the United States with his family and friends – his travel buddies were nicknamed 'The Fun Bunch'.

Bob's family will be having a private celebration of life.
