Robert de Gast, age 79, died on 3 January 2016 of cancer in the VA hospice in Baltimore.
He was born on October 10, 1936, in The Hague, The Netherlands.
He returned to Annapolis from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, over two years ago to treat his illness.
He and his wife Evelyn Chisholm had lived in Mexico for the past two decades, on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for two preceding decades, and for one decade in Annapolis, where he and his first wife, Anja Bury, had their three children.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years after entering the United States from The Netherlands.
He was an accomplished photographer, writer, sailor, pilot, tutor, author of 10 books, and also for many of his earlier years, he was proficient in home design and renovation.
He was an intellectual, a voracious reader, and a life-long adventurer. He had a life well lived.
He is survived by the love of his life, Evelyn Chisholm; three children Makaria Jayne, Sabrina Glaeser, and Justin de Gast, all of Annapolis; two step-children Trennie Naeny of Stevensville and Ken Menzies of Arnold; two sisters Erica Plackis and Marianne Haluzska, both of NJ; four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Barranco & Sons Funeral Home provided the cremation services. All other services are private.
