Robert W. Ganz Sr., 85, of Stevensville, died suddenly while fishing at Kent Narrows on Oct. 14. The cause of death is unavailable.

Mr. Ganz was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Baltimore, where he was reared, attended Catholic schools and graduated from City College. He was also a longtime resident of Arnold and Severna Park, where he built his home in 1955.

He worked at Glen L. Martin during World War II, building airplanes, and retired from the Coast Guard, where he worked as a shipbuilder for 29 years. He was also a carpenter for the Port of Annapolis and Historic Annapolis.

A member of Coastal Conservation of Maryland, he also belonged to Masonic Lodge 89 in Annapolis, Maryland Free State Fly Fishers Club and Liberty Road Hunting and Fishing Club.

His interests included fishing, tying his own flys, especially the snowflake fly, woodworking and watching sporting events and history shows on television.

He was the husband of the late Ida Lucille Ganz. Surviving are two daughters, Diana Ziegler of Bethany Beach and Roberta Staley of Severna Park; one son, Robert W. Ganz Jr. of Stevensville; eight grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial is private.
