Robert Floyd

Robert Waldrop Floyd, 72, of Arnold, died of brain cancer July 12 at Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum after a two-year illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1932, in Washington, D.C., and the son of the late Frieda L. Avery and Claude William Floyd, Mr. Floyd was educated in the Montgomery County school system and at the University of Maryland, College Park. He also studied law and later took advanced technical programs relating to his career.

Mr. Floyd served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Most of his professional life was concentrated in the data processing field. He began his career at Vitro Corp. in Silver Spring as a systems analyst, where he worked on the Navy's Poseidon Missile Project. He later joined with several contractors to manage the NASA Scientific and Technical Information Facility. Subsequently, he worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as project director for the Defense Medical Information Systems Organization for 20 years.

A member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, he served as the policies and personnel ministry coordinator for the group's Web site re-design and development. His other interests included travel, boating, oil painting, gardening and classical and jazz music.

He was the brother of the late John Preston Floyd.

Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Henry Sieg Floyd, whom he married in 1965; one daughter, Jennifer Floyd Underwood of Genoa, N.Y.; three stepsons, John S. Sieg of Chadds Ford, Pa., Patrick K. Sieg of Derwood in Montgomery County and Christopher A. Sieg of Hillsboro, N.H.; one sister, Jane Floyd Estes of Silver Spring; one brother, William Avery Floyd of Fredericksburg, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
