Robert F Chance, 60, passed away on June 29, 2022 after a year-long battle with an aggressive bladder cancer. He was born August 30, 1961 to Robert G. Chance and Carol E. (nee Poole) Chance. He was the youngest of their three children.

He loved to read, watch the O's, and help others. Bob was a devourer of knowledge for knowledge's sake. He liked sharing his passion for learning with others; he had high hopes for the great things we could learn when we put our heads together.  This optimism for the future led to Bob's first career in IT at the dawn of the Internet. He travelled the world setting up WANs, LANs, and Token Rings, helping people connect and make full use of this new technology. He enjoyed taking complex concepts and making them accessible.

His second career was working with his dad at the family business, Carol's Western Wear, until its close due to his father's ill health.  He enjoyed meeting new people, reconnecting with friends, and sharing his knowledge. He encouraged people to shop local, supporting the small business community.  He advocated for a stronger tie between manufacturers and the brick-and-mortar stores. While running Carol's Western Wear, he volunteered with Maryland Therapeutic Riding, which became a passionate pet project.

Bob's final career was that of caregiver to his father who suffers from late-stage Alzheimer's. Whenever Bob was at the Doctor's office or hospital, Big Bob would ask for Little Bob.  Bob enjoyed taking care of his father's property, The Faith Alone Farm in Pasadena, MD.  He created a wildflower garden, revitalized the sunken Hosta garden, and planned to rehabilitate the paths through the woodland garden.  Bob introduced his father to the joys of birdwatching; they spent many happy hours observing the finches, woodpeckers, cardinals, and mourning doves.  They searched for methods to thwart the ever-present squirrels.

He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death: his mother, Carol Chance; his sisters, Cindy Chance and Kathy Morlan; his niece and nephew, Kiersten and Jon-Michael Morlan, his father, Robert G. Chance; and his dog Skippy.

There  will be a viewing at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, Maryland 21146 on July 9, 2022 from 11:00 -12:00 followed by a memorial service.
