CANCELLIERE, Robert James (Age 81) of Severna Park, MD passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2017 surrounded by his wife and two children. Born March 18, 1935 in New York City, New York. Robert graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Robert proudly served in and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Robert continued working for the Department of Defense in conjunction with IBM as a consultant. He moved to Severna Park in the early '60s and remained a resident for over 50 years. In the 70's, Robert opened Severna Park Inn. The Inn was well known as a central gathering point for many well established Severna Park residents. Residents of Severna Park were prideful to be part of "The Inn Crowd." Other accomplishments in the area consisted of serving as past director, Anne Arundel County Trade Council; past president, Severna Park Chamber of Commerce; past chairman, American Cancer Society; founder and charter member, local Optimist Club; past delegate, Greater Severna Park Council; recipient, National Jaycees service award and County Executive community service award. In 1986, Robert ran for State Senate to represent District Number 33.  Robert opened Anne Arundel County's first private computer school. In his spare time Robert enjoyed gardening, boating, beekeeping and fishing. Better known as Bob to his friends and family, he was greatly loved and admired by all he came in contact with. Bob was a dedicated leader and will truly be missed. He is survived by his wife Antoinette Kee Cancelliere, his daughter Annie (Tim), and two grandchildren Emily and Timothy Greaves of Severna Park as well as his son Robert (Laura) Cancelliere of the home Severna Park. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. Interment private.
