IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert B.
Butler
August 18, 1949 – January 26, 2025
Robert Bruce Butler, 75, of Arnold, MD, passed away in his home on January 26, 2025. He was born on August 18, 1949 to Mary and George Butler. Together with his five brothers and sisters, Robert grew up on 8th street in Brooklyn. He graduated from City College in Baltimore. Joining the Army after high school, Robert served two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret. Robert was honorably discharged as a decorated veteran.
Robert was a devoted husband to wife Kimberly. Their 54th wedding anniversary would have been March 27th. He was a proud father to Nicholas and Matthew, and a loving grandfather to Taylor. Robert is survived by two brothers, George (wife Linda) and Fred (wife Judy), and Robert's brother from another mother, Earl Brown. As well as his many nieces and nephews, countless friends, and former co-workers.
In 2021 Robert and Kim celebrated their 50th anniversary, along with their two sons, at one of their favorite getaways, The Greenbriar. They enjoyed "dressing to the nines" whenever possible.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and George, his sisters Mickey Hartman and Shirley Bolen, and his brother Jim Butler.
A man of integrity, Robert gave 300% to his jobs, working at Proctor and Gamble for 23 years until the Baltimore plant closed. At Empire Today, he was Install Manager from 2005 to his well-deserved retirement in 2022.
Robert met the love of his life, Kimberly, in 1970. They were married on March 27, 1971, and were inseparable from that point forward. They shared an amazing journey together raising their family as well as building a network of friends who, as Robert would say, there is family, there are friends and there are friends who become family. A lover of music they attended many concerts together including seeing Robert's favorite female singer, Reba.
A highlight for Robert was seeing the Redwoods in California in 2023. He loved seeing Kimberly's face when she saw the Eiffel Tower and walking across Abbey Road in London with her on the 50th anniversary of Abbey Road.
As father to his two sons, Nicholas and Matthew, Robert never missed a baseball or football game. Nicholas remembers his dad putting together a radio-controlled car sitting at a table with a magnifying light for hours. Matt remembers how special it felt to push his dad in his wheelchair through Muir Woods to see his beloved redwoods. As members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Arnold, Robert participated in his sons' scout activities such as helping them with their pinewood derby cars and camping trips.
As a grandfather to Taylor, the light of his life, Robert watched her grow up with joy and was never so proud as the day he saw her graduate from WVU in May. From bedtime stories, trips to the zoo, buying her first pair of diamond earrings (upgraded many times) to her first trip to Walt Disney World and a trip to London/Paris. Nothing was too much for his princess.
A devoted son-in-law, Robert enjoyed the company of his in laws Bill and Frances Greenstreet where three generations shared a home together in Arnold, MD, since 1979. Many memorable trips were made to Myrtle Beach by the whole family, often followed by Robert and "Pop" going to the races in Darlington.
A personal hobby for Robert was bowling in leagues in Glen Burnie, winning trophies for high games. He was handy around the house, renovating the family room with his sons, building a deck and picnic table for the family and sided his house with the help of his brothers.
Robert had a unique fashion style, everyone called him dapper commenting on his outfits from his hats to his Chucks. His reply would be, "It's all Kimberly!". His most recent trend was wearing two different shoes, stating it was a conversation starter. No matter what Robert went through, his smile was always present. Robert was at his best when he could make others happy.
Disney played a significant role for the family. There were countless family trips to Disney World and in recent years they enjoyed Disney cruises. He wore his "ears" proudly in the park saying it was a place his inner child could come out and he could be a kid again. Robert loved Donald Duck, calling him #1! Another favorite family destination was Myrtle Beach. Cherished memories of playing in the ocean with his children, playing miniature golf, rides at the Pavillion and go carting will last a lifetime.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Robert loved "giving back".
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday February 22, 2025 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A. 495 Ritchie hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
