Robert John Blanchfield, a life-long, multi-generational Severna Park resident, passed away at the age of 78 on August 3, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born on December 30, 1945 in his family home in Severna Park, MD to John and Mary (neé Shiroky) Blanchfield. Rob, or Bob as he was known to some, resided in Severna Park his entire life, aside from some cold Maryland winters in Naples, FL, where he and his wife, Pat, enjoyed living in their second home. Bob graduated from Severna Park High School in 1964, enlisted in the Air Force and, soon thereafter, married Patricia M Sigethy, the love of his life. Almost immediately, they began to build their family. In order to take care of his fast-growing family, he worked multiple jobs simultaneously before starting a landscaping company, the first of his many companies. In the beginning, he was a deck hand working as a merchant marine on a tug boat, worked for a sign company, and with his own oyster boat hand-tonged for oysters, crabbed, and clammed. He then started his landscaping company by going door to door, offering to fix any issues with area homeowners' yards in order to support his family. Throughout the years he added many more job titles next to his name, including commercial and industrial landscaping, running a garden center and florist with his wife, managing landfills for the local governments, real estate development and home building. In spite of his work obsession, he did find ample time to spend with his family, including leading a Boy Scout troop in order to be closer to his sons, where he forged relationships with now men who still visited him in his later years to thank him for being such an admirable role model. Locally, Bob is legendary for his kindness, love for the outdoors and wildlife, his tremendous dedication to his family and was always helping others, thinking of himself last. He was Severna Park!

Bob is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Patricia Blanchfield, daughter Patty (Sam), sons Rob (Laura) and Tim (Brittney), and his five grandchildren, Grace, Mikaela, Nicholas, Paul and Hailey. He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy, Marie and Patsy.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 3 pm to 5 pm & 7 pm to 9 pm in Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy., Severna Park, MD 21146.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 10am.

Interment will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
