Robert Salvatore Barranco, Jr. "Bob", 57, a longtime resident of Severna Park and currently of Sparks, Maryland, passed away at Gilchrist Hospice on July 22, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer.

Bob was born to his parents, Robert S. and Catherine M. Barranco on May 6, 1960 in Baltimore and was raised in Severna Park.  He attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic School and graduated from Severna Park High School in 1978.  He attended Stetson University and University of Maryland College Park prior to earning his Mortuary Science degree at Catonsville Community College in 1986.  Bob worked in his family's business, Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, for over 17 years.  Deeply influenced by his grandfather, Dr. Salvatore Barranco and his uncle, Dr. Frank Barranco, Sr., Bob later earned his degree as a Physician's Assistant from the Anne Arundel Community College in 2000.  In addition, he attained a post graduate degree in Allergy and Asthma from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and was employed with Dr. James Banks and Dr. Timothy Andrews at Allergy and Asthma Associates, P.A. in Arnold from 2001 until 2015.  During that time, he also worked part-time with Righttime Medical Care.  Prior to his illness, Bob was working at Concentra Occupational Medical/Urgent Care in Timonium.

Bob always had a mission to help others.  During his high school years, he was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol as well as a firefighter/EMT at Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company.  Later, Bob was employed as an emergency room technician at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, where he also taught community CPR.  He served in the Maryland Army National Guard from 1982-1988. Other volunteer services included Hospice of the Chesapeake, the Lighthouse Shelter in Annapolis and Our Daily Bread in Baltimore.  Bob was a member of St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he was a part-time Eucharistic Minister for a local nursing home. Previous church affiliations included St. Mary's and St. Andrew by the Bay when he lived in Annapolis.

Bob was deeply inspired by the prolific twentieth century writer and Trappist monk, Fr. Thomas Merton and made several retreats to the Abbey at Gethsemani Monastery in Kentucky.

Bob enjoyed cooking, going to the movies with his wife, traveling, summers in Ocean City, boating trips, especially with his parents on the Intracoastal Waterway, listening to jazz music, watching his son play baseball and watching his daughter participate in 4-H events. He was an avid Orioles and Ravens fan.  But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Bob was a devoted husband to his wife of 31 years, Lindsay Miller Barranco; cherished father of Madeline and Sam Barranco; loving son of Catherine M. Barranco and the late Robert S. Barranco, Sr.; dear brother of James Barranco (Mark), John Barranco (Patrice) and Carolyn Russell (Steve); beloved son-in-law to John and Patricia Miller; dear brother-in-law of Brian Miller (Sandra); loving uncle to Kathleen Barranco, Elizabeth Marconi, Christopher Barranco, Katie and Kyle Russell and Gianna Miller.  Also survived by many loving cousins.
