Robert B. Smith, 62, a longtime resident of Arnold, died peacefully at his home on January 21, 2014 after a lengthy illness with cancer.

Robert was born to his parents, Homer and Estelle Smith on June 3, 1951 in Wilkinsburg, PA and was raised in Deale, MD. He graduated from Southern High School in 1969 and continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Music at Bob Jones University in 1973. Robert studied the bassoon and then later learned the bass. Recently he played in the AACC Jazz Ensemble, and various local musicals. He also enjoyed the Blues and NASCAR racing.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Marjorie S. Smith; his sons, Scott Robert Smith and his wife, Krystle of Pasadena, MD and Brian Douglas Smith and his wife, Angelica of Pasadena, MD; his brother, Gregory John Smith of Annapolis; his sister, Carol Smith Faber of Annapolis; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Smith.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:30 am with the interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Greenebaum Cancer Center Area of Greatest Need". Please reference "In memory of Robert B. Smith" on the memo line.
