Rita Frances Le Gette, 74, resident of Severna Park, died on October 4, 2012 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 24, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Huntington Station, NY and Woodland, CA. After graduating valedictorian of her high school, St. Joseph Academy in Sacramento, CA, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science, in Education, at California State University, Sacramento (Sac State). Past residences include San Francisco, CA; Springfield, VA; Stockton, CA, Scottsdale, AZ; and since 1980, in Severna Park, MD.
Rita met her future husband, James E. Le Gette ("Jim") in an Abnormal Psychology class at Sac State, in her senior year. Since she arrived at that class right after her Camping class, she always wondered how Jim was able to get past the smell of campfire smoke in her clothing. He doesn't even remember it.
Upon graduation, she seriously considered an offer to join the Peace Corp., in Sri Lanka; but decided instead to follow her other passion and teach 3rd and 4th graders at St. Bernard in Oakland, CA and the Marina School in California. In the summer of '63, she and Jim were wed, and eventually relocated to San Francisco, CA, when Jim became a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service.
She was a homemaker, first and foremost, with a love of antiquing, music, genealogy, volunteer service, and, of course, spending time with family, friends and her parish community. Rita touched many people's lives with her bottomless empathy and instant connection with everyone she met. She was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in a lovely soprano, in the St. John's choir, for more than 25 years.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James E. Le Gette of Severna Park; three sons, Christopher J. Le Gette of Leesburg, VA, Brian E. Le Gette of Baltimore, MD, Marco F. Le Gette of Severna Park, MD; one daughter, Michele V. Dierking of Severna Park, MD; brother, Bruno F. Fabbri of Woodland, CA; and three grandchildren, Vittoria Dierking, Gianna Dierking, and Simone Le Gette.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park. A Mass and Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 12 noon at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, followed by Interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, restricted to the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center, Harwood, MD 20776, or to one's favorite charity.
