Rita Diane Breier Herzog (Nan) loving daughter, mother and grandmother, 66, of Arnold, Maryland passed away on April 16, 2015 at home after a long illness.

Born on July 19, 1948 in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of Frank John Breier and Clara Charnock. Rita was a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse with a BSN from St. Louis University and MSN from Marymount University in nursing and education. She worked as a Senior Clinical Nurse at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Rita was recognized with an Excellence in Nursing Award for her work, where she loved, honored, and respected her patients and the faculty. Her compassion, empathy and love of people made her a remarkable nurse. Rita loved reading, volunteering, teaching and mentoring others.

She is survived by her son, David Lawrence Herzog, Jr. of Edgewater, Maryland and daughter, Karen Marie Herzog Fiasco of Arnold, Maryland. Her grandchildren, Matthew Wayne, Andrew Francis and Rachel Katherine, whom she loved with all her heart and soul. Her dog Cali and cat Millie, who brought her great joy and comfort.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at The Baltimore Basilica, 409 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Parking is available at the garage on Franklin Street adjacent to the Baltimore Basilica.

Interment will take place at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035 immediately following the funeral mass.

The family will meet with friends and family following the interment at the home of David L. Herzog at 3518 Monarch Drive, Edgewater, MD 20137.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marlene and Steward Greenebaum Cancer Center in honor of Rita Herzog to: University of Maryland Medical Systems (UMMS) Foundation at 110 S. Paca Street, 9th Floor
