Richard Towle

Richard Burton Towle, 84, of Severna Park, died of cancer Sept. 16 at Genesis ElderCare Network Spa Creek Center after a two-month illness.

Mr. Towle was born Sept. 14, 1921, in Portland, Maine, where he was raised. He had also resided in Mount Holly, N.J. from 1959 to 1978 and Little River, Nova Scotia, Canada from 1978 to 2002.

He retired from the Army, where he served during World War II and the Korean conflict as a warrant officer. He also taught at West Point while in the service.

Subsequently he worked as a businessman.

His interests included reading, classical music and animals.

He was the husband of the late Marcella M. Towle and father of the late Jane Towle.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas L. Towle of County Galway, Ireland, Richard E. Towle of Stockton, N.J. and Michael D. Towle of Severna Park; one sister, Mary Lou Bradeen of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
