Rev. Richard Earl Nowers, 87, a resident of Edgewater, passed away on January 23, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on April 29, 1929 in Reading, Pennsylvania, was raised in Allentown, PA, and graduated from Allentown High School, Ohio Wesleyan University; and Drew University, received  Bachelor's and Master's degrees, and also a member of a fraternity. He also lived in Scranton, Washington, DC, Solomon's Island, Lutherville, Baltimore, Marlow Heights, Pasadena, Glen Burnie, until he resided in Edgewater.

Rev. Nowers was a United Methodist Minister. He had been with St. Andrew's for over 10 years. He has touched many lives and was loved by many as a United Methodist Minister in the Philadelphia Conference and now the Baltimore/Washington Conference. He was kind, compassionate, always positive and enthusiastic. He had a passion for life and lived it to its fullest. He appreciated every little thing and everybody.

He enjoyed dancing, singing, skiing, ice skating, dining out, traveling, biking, scouting (was Eagle Scouting), and camping.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Olive Nowers, whom he married in June 1957; late daughter, Lisa Ann Nowers; and late son Richard Gil Nowers.

He is survived by daughter, Terry Lynn Fitzmaurice and son-in-law, Dennis Fitzmaurice of East Stroudsburg, PA; granddaughter, Meghan Sucheski and her husband, Andrew Sucheski of Scranton; grandson, Jonathan Fitzmaurice of Allentown, PA; great grandson, Daniel Sucheski of Scranton; and life partner, Martha Beach of Edgewater.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 7-9 pm at Saint Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at Saint Andrew's United Methodist Church. Interment will be private.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Andrew's UMC or to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
