Retired Army Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Joseph Hoban, 86, of Severna Park and formerly of Odenton for 45 years, died of heart failure April 13 at Home Sweet Home Assisted Living in Severna Park.
Born Nov. 4, 1920, in Camden, N.J., and reared in Gloucester, N.J., Sgt. Maj. Hoban graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School in 1938. He lived all over Europe during his Army career, served during World War II and retired from the National Security Agency.
He was a dog lover.
The widower of Rosemary Sullivan Hoban, who died in 1963, and of Mary Frances Bauer Hoban, who died in 2004, he is survived by one son, Jeffrey "Pete" Hoban of Blaine, Wash.; two daughters, Martha Goodenough of Frederick and Dr. Susan Hoban of Severna Park; and two grandchildren.
Memorial visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday with a memorial Mass to follow at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave., Millersville.
