Richard Odell Haffer, 70, a longtime resident of Severna Park, died of heart failure April 22 at home after a two-week illness.

Mr. Haffer was born April 8, 1935, and reared in Morrell Park in Baltimore and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1954.

He served in the Army for two years. He retired in 1997 from CSX Corp. after 44 years of employment.

A longtime member and current president of the Baltimore Passenger Association, he also belonged to the Free State Theater Organ Society, and restored the great theater organ at the former Stanley Theater in Baltimore. He was a past member of the Richardson Boat Owners Association and a member of the Lower Magothy Beach Community Association.

Surviving are many close friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at his home from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home. Burial is private.
