Richard G. Young, 72, a 23 year resident of Crownsville, MD, died of Pulmonary Fibrosis on Friday, February 6, 2009, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD.

Mr. Young was a native of Watertown, NY and was known as "Dick" there and as "Snoop" in Maryland and many other places in the world, retired in 1999 as a Senior Executive after 42 years of Government service. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1954 and from Canton ATI in 1956 with a major in Agriculture. After serving three years in the United States Army Security Agency, primarily in Germany, he went to work at the National Security Agency in 1960. While with the NSA, he lived in Harrogate, England for three years. Mr. Young traveled extensively, being heavily involved with the creation of installations in Hawaii, Texas, Georgia, and Maryland. When he retired from federal service, he was awarded the Director's Distinguished Service Medal among other honors presented by United States and United Kingdom Officials. Mr. Young was also presented the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal by the Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. He was previously the recipient of the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Exceptional Civilian Service Award. He also worked as a Contractor for CACI from 2000-2008

Mr. Young was born on May 26, 1936 to Russell and Gladys Bellinger Young of Watertown. He married the former Wendy Vieser on October 25, 1975. He was a summer resident at a cottage at Silver Shores on Lake Ontario which he shared with his brother Patrick. Mr. Young was a member of Baldwin United Methodist Church in Millersville, MD, where he at one time held a variety of leadership positions. He was a former member of Emmanuel Congregational Church in Watertown. His interests included; gardening, genealogy, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren.

He was survived by his wife Wendy Vieser Young of Crownsville and his daughter, Jennifer Day and her husband Capt. Evan Day, USMC of Stafford, VA, and his son, Richard G. Young, Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, FL. Mr. Young was also grandfather of Skye, Brynn and Katarina Day. He was also survived by his brother Patrick Young and his wife Liz of Sangerfield, NY.

Friends may visit at the Barranco & Sons, P.A., Severna Park Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. The Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1pm. Interment will be in the Watertown Cemetery at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, SPCA, Severna Park Assistance Network, or Emmanuel Congregational Church.
